Personal development, health and physical education

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

Booragul Public School provides regular physical activity as we believe this is an essential ingredient for the development and maintaining students' optimum health. We believe physical activity is critical for enhancing bone development, controlling obesity and improving psychological health and immune status.

Physical activity is encouraged and portrayed as an important component contributing to the 'Quality of Life' for all students. In addition to sport, the students also take part in daily fitness as well as the 'Crunch and Sips Program'. As a school, we also participate actively in the Premiers Sporting Challenge.

These skills are the building blocks for successful participation in games and sports. Examples of these skills can often be seen in the different games our students play in the playground as well as the organised games as part of PE and sport.

Friday Sport

Students participate in a wide range of sports throughout the year. Sports such as soccer, netball, basketball, touch football, hockey, european handball, volleyball, softball, cricket, and newcombe ball are played in our Friday sports program. In addition to this, we offer a range of sports outside the school in Terms 2 and 3 with swimming being a major focus in Term 4.

Parent involvement is encouraged in all of our sporting and Daily Fitness Programs.

We have physical activity programs for children from Kindergarten to Year 6, with a focus on fundamental movement skills.
