Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
70th Birthday Celebrations
In October, we celebrated 70 years of learning at Booragul Public School.
It was wonderful to welcome back past students and staff for a walk down memory lane.
We celebrated with performances, an art show, cake cutting, memorabilia, school tours, a colour run and trivia night.
Awabakal / Gathang Word of the Week
Our students love learning about Aboriginal culture and history.
Each week, we learn a new Awabakal or Gathang word or phrase to incorporate into our learning.
Students introduce the words at a morning assembly each week. Posters around the school and in classrooms help us to remember the words and we practise them regularly in our learning.
We are keeping Aboriginal language alive at Booragul Public School.
Battle of the Brains
Students from 15 western Lake Macquarie schools battled it out in a Battle of the Brains with smarts and knowledge as their only weapons. Local students challenged each other in a High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) initiative that balanced engagement, fun and rivalry with academic excellence. The theme this year was 'Out of this World' with challenges across English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, and Creative Arts.
This year, Booragul Public School won the English, Creative Arts, General Knowledge, Engineering and Banner sections. We were extremely proud to be announced as the overall winners.
Seussical JR
This December, step into the vibrant world of Seussical JR., a fantastical musical adventure that brings to life all your favourite Dr. Seuss characters. Join Jojo, a young thinker from Whoville with a boundless imagination. Follow Horton the Elephant on his courageous quest to save the Whos from the Sour Kangaroo and the devious Wickersham Brothers. Meet Gertrude McFuzz, who longs to be noticed and Mayzie La Bird, whose search for excitement and adventure leads her to discover that freedom sometimes means letting go. Featuring the mischievous Cat in the Hat as your guide, Seussical JR. bursts to life with infectious music, colourful characters, and a heart warming message about friendship, imagination, and the power of standing up for what’s right.
Dulli with Five Islands
A highlight of our school week is welcoming our friends from Five Islands School to join in our learning and play. Five Islands students join year 3 for physical education lessons and join us all in the playground for a weekly play date.
Dulli is an Aboriginal word meaning together.
Dulli allows Five Islands students to experience mainstream education. Booragul Public School students have the opportunity to build their social-emotional skills by assisting their new friends to participate and join in new activities.
"Thank you for providing a safe, fun, supportive and caring environment!” — a parent of Booragul Public School
